| THE LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR |

On the minds of many gallery directors is the worth of participating in the September Los Angeles art fairs being held in conjunction with the launch of the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative. Given the influx of Getty funds to promote the participating museums’ exhibitions internationally, and bringing art collectors, curators and art-minded people to Los Angeles, it’s not difficult to believe that a great opportunity is in the offing.
New collectors are the lifeblood of all galleries and the vitality of the current Los Angeles art market necessitates an art fair to take advantage of the art crowd coming to town. This is an opportunity for direct face-time with collectors so they will return to your gallery in the future. Time constraints on the September visitors make downtown the go-to place, as opposed to touring museums, individual galleries and collections. They are coming to Los Angeles to buy art and they will do it at the fairs, so keeping them at the fair is of the utmost importance. The cultural and monetary worth of an artist’s work is enhanced by the exciting social back and forth that is the art fair experience. It makes good economic sense to participate in one of them this September.
